Test Code 7000080
Synonyms Trichomonas vaginalis DNA, Trich NAAT
Test Includes
Specimen Endocervical Swab; Male or Female Urine; Vaginal Swab
Volume Urine: 10-50 mL
Container Roche cobas PCR Female Swab Sample Kit; Roche cobas PCR Urine Sample Kit / Sterile Urine Container
Special Instructions Urine specimen may be submitted in a sterile urine collection cup, but must be received in the laboratory within 24 hours of collection. It is important to provide a first-catch urine specimen. Midstream urine used for urinalysis and culture is NOT recommended for this test.
Specimen Prep ENDOCERVICAL SWAB: Remove excess mucus from cervical os and surrounding mucosa using the cleaning swab from the Roche cobas PCR Female Swab Sample Kit. DISCARD THIS SWAB. Insert specimen collection swab into endocervical canal. Gently rotate swab clockwise for 10 to 30 seconds in endocervical canal to ensure adequate sampling. Withdraw swab carefully, avoid any contact with vaginal mucosa. Remove cap from swab specimen cobas PCR Media tube and immediately place specimen collection swab into Roche cobas PCR Media tube. Carefully break swab shaft at scoreline, use care to avoid splashing contents. Recap Roche cobas PCR Media tube tightly. VAGINAL SWAB: Using the Roche cobas PCR Female Swab Sample Kit, insert the specimen collection swab into the vagina about 2 inches past the introitus. Gently rotate the swab clockwise for 10 to 30 seconds. Make sure the swab touches the vaginal walls so that moisture is absorbed by the swab. Withdraw the swab carefully without touching the skin. Remove the cap from the Roche cobas PCR Media tube and immediately place the specimen collection swab into the Roche cobas PCR Media tube. Carefully break the swab shaft at the score line; use care to avoid splashing of the contents. Recap the Roche cobas PCR Media tube tightly. MALE or FEMALE URINE: Patient should not have urinated for at least 1 hour prior to specimen collection. Direct patient to provide first-catch urine (approximately 10 to 50 mL of initial urine stream) into urine collection cup free of any preservatives. Collection of larger volumes of urine may result in specimen dilution that may reduce test sensitivity. Female patients should not cleanse labial area prior to providing specimen. Using the Roche cobas PCR Urine Sample Kit, remove cap from the Roche cobas PCR Media tube and transfer urine into Roche cobas PCR Media tube with the included disposable pipette. The correct volume of urine has been added when fluid level is between black fill lines on urine specimen transport tube label. Recap the Roche cobas PCR Media tube tightly.
