Special Instructions
Specimen Prep Allow SST or Red Top Tube to clot for 30 minutes. Centrifuge all tubes within 2 hours of collection. For Red Top only, transfer serum to Plastic Transport Tube. Avoid hemolysis and do not refrigerate before centrifugation.

Rejection Criteria Grossly hemolyzed, lipemic, or iteric specimens. 
Reference Value Lower Respiratory Tract Infection: <0.10 ng/mL Bacterial etiology highly unlikely. 0.10 - 0.25 ng/mL Bacterial etiology unlikely. 0.26 - 0.50 ng/mL Bacterial etiology likely. >0.50 ng/mL Bacterial etiology highly likely. Sepsis: <= 0.25 ng/mL bacterial etiology highly unlikely. 0.26 - 0.50 ng/mL Bacterial etiology should be considered, depending on clinical suspicion. > 0.50 ng/mL Bacterial etiology highly likely.
